Sampa Das Golden Muga Revivalist

Sampa Das: Golden Muga Revivalist, authored by Public Relations specialist Rita Bhimani was launched by Shri Subrata Mukherjee and Shri Harshavardhan Neotia at the Bengal Club on 21 November 2020 in the presence of a select group of personalities. It is a book about the manner in which Sampa Das has, over the last three decades, revived, revitalized and revamped the famous Assamese Muga silk. She has scoured and worked with the weavers at the village of Sualkuchi, known as the Manchester of Assam with its over 10,000 weaving hamlets, to get the best sarees and mekhala chadors woven for discerning wearers in India and overseas. The book is divided imaginatively into chapters which are titled Looms. Thus Loom 1 is all about her Swadeshi heritage, Loom 2 showcases top celebrities wearing Sampa’s creations in two page spreads, and the rest of the Looms go into the history of Muga silk, tales of the Ahom kings, folkloric stories and much more.

This 140 page coffee table book in size 11 ½ x 9 ½ is richly illustrated and printed by leading printers Anderson Printing House, Kolkata. It is priced at Rs. 1500.
